Propulsion Systems

Overview

The propulsion architecture of CVS-003 is built around a military-grade Helium-3 fusion framework.

Its operating principle relies on high-energy plasma generation through Helium-3/Deuterium fusion reactions.

The successful development of this system was made possible by three advanced technologies acquired through reverse-engineering efforts conducted on relics recovered from the Proxima Surveyor and the surviving escape pod of the Dragon Empire discovered at Roswell:

  • High-Density Magnetic Confinement Architecture

  • Room-Temperature Superconductive Materials

  • Plasma Stabilization Technology

(PART 02:Primary Weapon System — DEW-1 Helios)

Weapon System A

Primary Weapon System

DEW-1 Helios

Directed Energy Weapon System

Overview

DEW-1 is the most important primary weapon aboard the Nautilus-class.

Unlike conventional turret-mounted naval guns, the Helios system is fundamentally a distributed hull-integrated beam weapon network. Energy is supplied by the CFC-A Tactical Fusion Core, transmitted through the vessel's superconductive power trunk lines into energy storage rings distributed throughout the hull, and ultimately discharged through firing arrays located in the bow and along both broadsides.

The system utilizes a ship-wide coherent optical phased array, providing a maximum effective aperture of up to 620 meters. Phase synchronization is jointly managed by the ARES Strategic Intelligence System and the Athena Tactical System. In Siege Mode, targeting support from an F43 Phoenix or Scout drone is required for optimal firing solutions. This arrangement ensures strike accuracy remains within acceptable error margins.

Firing Mode I

Rapid Mode

Effective Range:8,000 km (approximately 0.027 seconds)

Maximum Range:100,000 km (approximately 0.33 seconds)

Single Broadside Output:120 MJ

(CFC-A reserves 200 MW of real-time power bandwidth for this mode.)

Dual Broadside Output:240 MJ

Rate of Fire:30 rounds per minute per broadside

Intended Use

  • Missile interception

  • Anti-fighter operations

  • Saturation air and space defense

Notes

In Rapid Mode, the port and starboard main batteries may engage targets independently or fire in synchronization.

ARES generally treats them as two separate fire channels in order to maximize interception efficiency.

Firing Mode II

Siege Mode

Effective Range:300,000 km (approximately 1 second)

Maximum Range:1,000,000 km (approximately 3.3 seconds)

Single-Shot Yield:150 GJ

(Restricted to a single broadside main battery.)

Full Charge Time:30–120 seconds

  • 30 seconds: Main battery priority power configuration

  • 120 seconds: Standard combat power configuration

Intended Use

  • Destruction of city-scale hardened targets

  • Destruction of major orbital installations

  • Neutralization of medium and large spacecraft

Notes

Siege Mode requires pre-charging before firing.

Sustained operation significantly increases the load on the vessel's thermal management systems.

Because the energy storage rings and phased arrays consume substantial portions of the ship's power-distribution network, when one broadside enters Siege Mode, the opposite broadside is automatically downgraded to Rapid Mode or placed in standby. This allows both broadsides to operate simultaneously under different firing profiles.

Thermal Management System

Weapon System Auxiliary Module

RAS-1

Radiator Array System

Designation:First-Generation Shipborne Radiator Array

Overview

RAS-1 remains retracted within the hull during normal operations.

During combat, the radiator assemblies are deployed, providing a total heat-radiation surface area of approximately 11 square kilometers.

HRS

Heat Recovery System

Overview

HRS utilizes liquid lithium and liquid sodium circulation loops to recover high-temperature waste heat and convert it into:

  • Electrical power

  • Internal heating

  • Industrial deck thermal energy

With HRS support, waste heat generated by each DEW-1 firing cycle is not immediately vented into space. Instead, thermal energy is first stored in dedicated heat reservoirs and then gradually consumed and converted by the HRS network.

This significantly extends the practical combat endurance of CVS-003 beyond that of contemporary spacecraft.

Weapon System B

Secondary Weapon Systems

MIM-88 Prometheus

Shipborne Energy-Charged Missile

Quantity:12,000 rounds

Additional Production Capacity:10,000 rounds using onboard industrial resources

Launcher Locations:Lower flight deck port and starboard launch sections, and ventral hull launch bays

Remote Control Range: 500,000 km

Operational Radius: 800,000 km

Maximum Range: 3,000,000 km

(Automatic self-destruction at maximum range.)

Overview

Prometheus does not carry a conventional warhead.

Instead, it belongs to the second generation of Energy-Charged Missiles, utilizing technology derived from reverse-engineering Proxima Surveyor artifacts.

Its core technology is the SSC (Superconductive Storage Cell), a superconductive energy storage module with an energy density of approximately 450 MJ/kg.

Using room-temperature superconductive materials, SSC forms multiple magnetically confined chambers that store energy in the form of stabilized magnetic fields. Once confinement is lost, the stored energy rapidly dissipates and is released.

In its uncharged state, a Prometheus missile is little more than a metal shell. Only after charging does it acquire its full destructive capability.

This design offers several advantages:

  • High operational safety

  • Long-term storage capability

  • Reduced sympathetic detonation risk

  • Significantly increased missile capacity

Prometheus-Light

Charge Capacity: 100 MJ

Primary Target:Unmanned drones

Prometheus-Medium

Operational Concept

The F43 is widely regarded as the first true aerospace combat strike fighter developed by humanity.

Its design philosophy is built around the concept of using the Sphere of Influence (SOI) as the boundary between inner-orbital and outer-orbital operations.

The aircraft was specifically designed to conduct combat missions across the Earth–Moon–Space operational theater.

Launch Operations

During orbital operations, the aircraft receives launch assistance from the EMALS-S (Electromagnetic Launch System) installed aboard CVS-003.

Unlike naval electromagnetic catapults used on Earth's surface, EMALS-S is optimized for orbital launch environments and heavy aerospace combat craft.

Additional Notes

Compact Fusion Cell-37

Standard Maintenance Interval: 10 months

Fuel Replenishment Cycle: 36 months

Core Design Life: 15 years

Assessment

While later generations of space superiority fighters would greatly exceed its capabilities, the F43 remains one of the most influential combat aircraft in human aerospace history.

It was the first fighter specifically created for sustained operations across multiple gravity wells rather than within a single atmosphere or orbital region.

As a result, many military historians regard the Phoenix not merely as a fighter aircraft, but as the prototype from which all later interplanetary combat aviation evolved.

Civic Deck, Artificial Gravity System, and Primary Operational Roles

Additional Facilities

Civic Deck

Overview

The Civic Deck occupies a significant portion of the vessel's habitable volume.

Facilities include:

  • Schools

  • Churches

  • Parks

  • Gymnasiums

  • Bars

  • Movie theaters

and other recreational and public-use spaces.

Most of these facilities are protected within the vessel's internal polyethylene water-shield layers and hydrogenated armor structure.

Basic Artificial Gravity System

Overview

Derived from reverse-engineered materials technology recovered from a Dragon Empire escape pod, this system exhibits characteristics somewhat analogous to magnetism.

The technology consists of two distinct surfaces:

  • Gravity Surface

  • Null-Gravity Surface

Gravity Surface

Generates a naturally occurring low-gravity environment.

Null-Gravity Surface

Reduces the effective gravitational influence acting upon objects placed upon it.

Operating Principle

The exact mechanism remains unknown.

Current theories suggest some form of gravitational-field interference effect, though humanity had not fully understood its operation by the time CVS-003 entered service.

Long-Term Habitability Warning

Years of experimentation in Earth orbit demonstrated that long-term habitation under this artificial gravity environment is not recommended.

Recommended maximum exposure: 72 months

Primary Mission Roles

Strategic Dominance Within Near-Earth Armed Space

Overview

The Nautilus was the first orbital carrier in human history to possess true global force-projection capability.

The vessel routinely operated between:

  • Geostationary Earth Orbit

  • High Earth Orbit

  • Lunar Orbit

Its primary purpose was to ensure American strategic dominance and deterrence throughout the Near-Earth Armed Sphere.

Earth–Moon Colonial Test Vessel

Overview

The true value of Nautilus was not military.

Its greatest purpose was to determine whether more than 12,000 people could survive and fulfill operational objectives within a permanently enclosed environment over extended periods.

Areas of study included:

  • Food-cycle sustainability

  • Water-cycle sustainability

  • AI-assisted societal management

  • Psychological stress control

  • Social order maintenance

The resulting data would later become foundational to Martian settlement programs and deep-space colonization efforts.

Solar-System Route Testing Platform

Overview

CVS-003 also served as a validation platform for:

  • Advanced weapons systems

  • Advanced propulsion technologies

  • Next-generation AI architectures

  • Experimental tactical doctrines

As a result, its true role was closer to humanity's first Pre-Interstellar Development Vessel than a conventional military carrier.

Known Design Deficiencies

As the first prototype interstellar carrier ever constructed, CVS-003 possessed numerous inherent limitations.

These included:

  • Excessive vessel mass, resulting in poor maneuverability. Most orbital corrections were planned on time scales measured in days.

  • Heavy dependence upon centralized fusion cores.

  • Excessively long charging times for DEW-1 Siege Mode.

  • Increased vulnerability while RAS-1 radiator arrays were fully deployed.

  • Extremely large crew requirements, imposing logistical demands far beyond those of later-generation starships.

  • Clear traces of experimental architecture throughout nearly every major subsystem.

Assessment

For these reasons, the United States Space Force never viewed CVS-003 as a viable mass-production standard.

Nevertheless, those very shortcomings provided invaluable engineering experience for future classes of spacecraft.

From an objective historical perspective, CVS-003 served as the foundational prototype for virtually every starship that followed.

General Assessment and Historical Record

General Assessment

CVS-003 was, in many respects, a "monster" jointly assembled by the United States Congress, the United States Space Force, NASA, major defense contractors, and pro-colonization political factions advocating advanced technological expansion.

Its most advanced technologies originated from two sources:

  • Artifacts recovered from the Proxima Centauri system, specifically those attributed to the Proxima Surveyors

  • Reverse-engineered technologies obtained from the crashed Dragon Empire Escape Pod recovered near Roswell

From the moment of its commissioning, CVS-003 simultaneously served as:

  • An aircraft carrier

  • A colonial transport vessel

  • An experimental test platform

  • A command ship

  • A technology validation platform

As a result, despite being expensive, cumbersome, and extraordinarily costly to maintain, it occupied a position of considerable historical significance.

Although its designation still reflected the naval traditions of humanity's planetary era, later historians increasingly preferred to classify the vessel as either:

A First-Generation Intra-System Orbital Fortress

or

A Primitive Structural Starship

rather than a conventional carrier.

CVS-003 was not humanity's first interstellar-capable vessel.

For a considerable period, it was not even formally classified as a "starship."

It was not the most successful spacecraft ever built.

Yet every vessel that would later cross the stars carried some trace of the Nautilus within its design heritage.

For that reason, history would remember it by another name:

The Cradle Starship

Shortly thereafter, it was destroyed by Shen Fengxian.

Historical Status

The history of CVS-003 remains incomplete.

Additional records and timelines continue to emerge.

Final Evaluation

From an engineering perspective, CVS-003 was unfinished.

From a military perspective, it was burdened by countless shortcomings.

From an operational perspective, it was extraordinarily expensive and inefficient.

Yet whenever humanity's rise to the stars is remembered, one colossal silhouette always appears in the historical record.

That silhouette belongs to humanity's first Cradle Starship:
